Commercial scalloping season is underway again on Nantucket. Nantucket Today editor John Stanton put together this 30-minute film that takes a look at that dwindling island scalloping culture and the work being done to try to save the bay scallops.
 
Work and local culture often go hand-in-hand. The Nantucket bay scallop fleet once numbered in the hundreds. It described a way of life. One writer said it was like the fractured remnants of the whaling fleet, spread across the harbor. Today there are only a handful of bay scallopers left.
